Truk Lagoon AdventureTruk Lagoon Incredible Wreck Diving

Truk Lagoon is also known as the “Mysterious Ghost Fleet Of Truk Lagoon.  There are more than 50 World War II major ship wrecks and more than 275 war planes that litter the bottom of Truk Lagoon.  Operation Hailstone, Japan’s “Pearl Harbor” was designed by the American fleet to disable the Japanese navy.  Many believed it was the turnaround that helped the Allies win the war.  It took just three days to decimate the major hub of Japan’s Imperial Fleet.

Good News For Wreck Divers

The good news for wreck divers is that Truk is a beautiful, tropical paradise that is considered the wreck diving capital of the world.  These wrecks are covered with over seventy years of coral growth,  their cargo holds are full of fighter aircraft, tanks, and bulldozers.  Divers will also find in their holds the likes of torpedoes, mines, railroad cars, and motorcycles. Also, bombs, boxes of munitions, thousands of different weapons, and human remains can be found.  These underwater carcasses are surrounded by beautiful, tropical fish.  Large pelagics, such as sharks, barracudas, rays, and turtles call the wrecks of Truk Lagoon their home.

Toucan Dive’s Visit To Truk Lagoon

Toucan Dive’s visit to Truk Lagoon in September 2013 was a well thought out plan that was implemented some eighteen months prior to our departure.  Diving on a liveaboard yacht, know as the Odessey, gave our group of sixteen divers the creature comforts, to enjoy this awesome dive excursion.  We were well fed, and all our needs taken care of, including nitrox on every dive.  The wrecks were an incredible time capsule into history, where more than 3000 sailors perished.  We spent hours outside, as well as inside, penetrating these incredible behemoths.  We were fortunate to have the creative force of Dr. John Galbreath, using all his skills as a former graphic artists, to render wonderful photos to keep our memories safe.  Check out Dr. John’s awesome photos as well a great video of this incredible dive adventure:
