Bonaire – We Felt The Love  Bonaire 2015

The Bonaire 2015 Tour was a fantastic week of scuba diving, wonderful weather, good food and beverages, and good times.  The Toucan Dive crew managed to get out of Chicago on Saturday morning, the 30th of January.  On Sunday, January 31st, nineteen inches of snow befell our fellow divers who were not so lucky to get out.  This was the sixth worst blizzard in Chicago’s history.  Knowing that we dodged the proverbial bullet, we had to take advantage of our situation, get our sea legs, and start diving in earnest.

Bonaire  And The Diving

The island of Bonaire is beautiful.  It is a desert island with flamingos, and iguanas, but there is so much more to see underwater.  Beautiful coral walls, teeming with fish life.  Buddy Dive is a terrific dive shop, and made sure to take care of our group with kid gloves.  They were able to get us to all the really wonderful sites, such as a “Thousand Steps”, and to the incredible, small island of Klein Bonaire.  Being that Bonaire has a underwater sanctuary, there were lots of critters to see.  One of the biggest lobsters we’ve ever seen, was cruising out in the open.  Turtles, stingrays, eagle rays, seahorses, and scorpion fish were all there to entertain us.  Schools of blue tangs and blue fusiliers were so thick, they nearly blocked out the sun!  The visibility underwater was a little more hazy than usual, due to the wind, but accepting the 60 to 80 feet viz, especially when the water temperature was over eighty degrees, we made due with our situation.  Doing  shore dives on the wreck of the Hilma Hooker, as well as the Salt Pier, were particularly memorable.

Bonaire 2015 Tour – Great Friends And Great Diving

All in all, we were all happy by the end of the week.  We enjoyed the diving, but also had a  great time, getting to visit with our fellow divers in the warm sunshine.  Hope you can join us on our next adventure!
