"Dive Against Debris" cleanup will be taking place on Saturday, June 18th, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.“Dive Against Debris” – Cleanup And Have Some Fun

“Dive Against Debris” cleanup will be taking place on Saturday, June 18th, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.  This will give divers the opportunity to go scuba diving, as well as help the local environment.  The event will be hosted by Toucan Dive,  Grayslake Community Park District and the Boy Scout Venture Crew.  This means that not only divers will be working to clean up the lake, but non divers can help as well.  These non divers will work along the beach, and park areas to clean up any debris and trash.  Toucan Divers will be working at Jones Island Park, along with these folks that want to help out on shore.

Giving Back To The World Community

For those of us that have traveled to many dive destinations, we can appreciate the beauty that the underwater realm provides.  Nothing mars those images more than seeing trash littered along the bottom.  Locally, we, as a dive shop have hosted many underwater cleanups at many lakes.  It still amazes me that people can toss all their garbage and junk in a lake, because it is hidden and out of sight.

The Dive Against Debris Day is our opportunity to join other divers around the world.  These are actively taking a role in helping to cleanup the oceans and seas.  This is our time to give back.  We can practice good conservation habits, and support recycling efforts.  We can actively engage ourselves in taking a proactive course. We can physically respond to our call to action.  The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a drudgery in responding to this challenge.  We will have the opportunity of working side by side with fellow divers and friends.  A lunch will be provided by the Boy Scout Adventure Crew.  There will be prizes from Grayslake Park District and Toucan Dive for the most garbage, and the most unusual garbage catagories.  There will be giveaways.  Everybody goes home with something.  This is going to be a lot of fun!
