SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor (OWSDI) course is a professional-level program designed to train experienced dive leaders to teach and certify new divers. It emphasizes practical teaching skills, risk management, and the business aspects of the diving industry.

Key Prerequisites

To enroll in the OWSDI course, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Age: Minimum of 18 years.
  • Experience: Certified diver for at least 6 months with proof of 100 logged dives across various environments and depths.
  • Current Rating: Must be a certified SDI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or equivalent from a recognized agency.
  • Certifications: Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Provider certifications.
  • Health: Provide a medical statement signed by a physician.

Graduate Qualifications

Upon successful completion, graduates are authorized to teach several courses, including: 

  • SDI Open Water Scuba Diver (and Junior Open Water).
  • Advanced Adventure Diver Specialties.
  • Rescue Diver and Divemaster programs.
  • Inactive Diver/Refresher courses. 
  • Does Not Include Registration Fees Upon Completion.
