Grand Cayman Exciting ArrivalToucan Divers in Grand Cayman About To Find The Action

Grand Cayman did not let Toucan Divers down this past February.  The excursion was a wonderful respite from the gloomy, and grey weather that our friends in the Midwest had to endure.  Upon our arrival, we felt the welcoming sunshine, and a warm tropical breeze.  We knew in an instant that this adventure was going to be our destiny!

Sunset House Our Home Base

Sunset House is a wonderful resort for divers to stay in Grand Cayman.  It is on the beach.  The accommodations are comfortable and clean.  The price for your stay and your meals is very reasonable.  Its greatest strength is the shore diving right off the beach.  The famous Grand Cayman underwater mermaid, Amphitrite  is there. Beautiful coral heads with lots of fish life are waiting your arrival. Several hundred yards out on their famous reef is an old wreck, The David Nicholson, a 70-foot-long landing craft sunk in 1990.  There, you can hang out with resident sea turtles!

Our Diving On Grand Cayman

Toucan Divers all agreed that the diving was fantastic with incredible corals and animal life.  There were lots of southern stingrays and skates, their smaller cousin.  It was not unusual to see turtles lazily, munching on soft sponges along the walls and ravines.  Nurse sharks would follow our group from coral head to coral head.  During our dives, we happened upon an eagle ray that was so preoccupied about what was under the sand.  He paid no attention as we gathered around him.  It was an awesome photo op for our divers to get so close.  That is a very rare opportunity for divers, because they tend to be shy.

The USS Kittiwake is a newer wreck that was intentionally sunk in Grand Cayman’s water a few years back.  Everyone was very excited to swim around this celebrity wreck.  Many of the divers were able to swim through many of the openings and swim throughs.  The Kittiwake is a great way to gather wreck experience.  It’s beautiful and not fret with danger.

We wrapped up our dive week at Stingray City.  This was and is a great, large animal encounter.  Toucan Divers fed and interacted with about a dozen of these exhibitionists.  They were great show and a lot of fun for everyone!

Will We Go Back To Grand Cayman?

Absolutely!  Even though Grand Cayman can tend to be expensive, there are still areas that are value oriented for the discerning diver.  The key is know where to go.  Sunset House knows how to take care of divers.  Toucan Dive and this awesome group of divers will not forget the great fun we had here.  Check out below, the awesome video and photos from our adventure!
