Diving in the Bahamas

Bahama wreck diving is only one of the amazing facets of diving Nassau

Nassau in the Bahamas is one of our favorite places to scuba dive. Toucan Dive will be visiting and diving the southwest side of Nassau between Nov. 6 – 10, and you’re invited on this group scuba diving trip!

Diving the Tongue of the Ocean in the Bahamas

The Bahamas is more-than-famous for big animal underwater adventures. Pelagics – that swim and live in the water column – like sharks, turtles, dolphins and rays can be seen at almost every dive site. Caribbean Reef Sharks are abundant in the area, and there are three or four dive sites where you are guaranteed to see free-swimming sharks!

The reefs and walls surrounding the southwest side of Nassau are perfect for both novice and advanced divers. With walls starting at 30 to 35 feet, one group of divers could be completing their Open Water certification dives at the top of the wall, while Advanced Open Water divers descend to 80 feet to complete their Deep Dive requirement … all at the same dive site! There is plenty of hard and soft corals at every dive site. But don’t just look for the big stuff, slow down and ensure you look for the smallest critters on the reef – they are everywhere!

Then of course we have the Wreck Diving. The area is one of the first to embrace the concept of sinking wrecks as artificial reefs, and it all started with the film industry. There is only one place in the world where you can dive wrecks from the James Bond movie series. The “Vulcan Bomber” from the movie Thunderball was sunk in 1964, and the remains consist of a “jungle gym” of pipe surrounded by beautiful coral formations. Look closely and you’ll find the landing gear. The southwest side of Nassau features more than 15 wrecks sunk or left in place after a movie production.

I’ve gone diving all over the world, but Nassau is a fantastic dive destination. You’ll be impressed by what you are going to experience.
